It's preparation method is to dissolve biphenyl in 85% acetic acid, add bromine in the solution, avoid light at room temperature stirring reaction, and then extract with solvent, steam away the solvent to get the product.
In the presence of β -dextrin, 4-bromobiphenyl can also be obtained by gas-solid reaction between biphenyl and bromobiphenyl.

Obtained from p - bromoaniline by the following reaction. Water, p-bromoaniline and concentrated hydrochloric acid are cooled together, and sodium nitrite aqueous solution is slowly added at 0-5℃, diazotization is carried out until starch potassium iodide test paper is blue, and clear diazo solution is filtered out. The benzene was added to the diazo solution and stirred at 5-10℃ for half an hour, while the sodium hydroxide solution was slowly added. After the addition, the mixture was stirred for another 3h, and then stirred at room temperature for another 45h. The benzene layer was separated, washed with water, and steam was carried out after vacuum distillation. The 170-175℃ (1.06kpa) fraction was collected and recrystallized with ethanol to obtain the finished product with melting point of 90℃.
